Parkersburg Cardiology Associates, Inc.
seeks an Echocardiography Technologist.
Monday through Friday, day shift.
No call.
Cardiology procedures.
Graduate of an AMA approved sonography program.
Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDSC), Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) required.
Must possess a thorough knowledge of using ultrasound devices and other imaging tools to create 2-D and 3-D images in order to inspect the chambers and walls of the heart as well as the valves, including image acquisition and processing.
*Job Summary* Under the direction of the Manager/In-Charge Technologist and Medical Director the echocardiographic technologist will perform a variety of technical procedures that require a high degree of independent judgement and initiative in the utilization of echocardiographic sonography for the diagnosis and the therapy of disease in humans.
*Accountabilities* * Receive patient and provide proper care during performance of clinical procedure.
Verify patient identification by checking two identifiers and review orders for procedure to be performed.
Recognize and respond appropriately to emergency situations.
Obtain pertinent patient history and check for procedural contradictions.
Maintain and operate auxiliary equipment necessary to procedure.
Communicate effectively with patient and family.
Prepare patient for procedure.
Prepare proper instrument, computer, and imaging protocol as indicated by departmental procedure manual.
* Demonstrates competence in performance of echocardiographic studies and .
consistently perform quality Doppler and color Doppler Exams * Performs echocardiographic studies considering the age-specific physiological, emotional, and cognitive needs of the patient.
* Acquires quality Stress Echo and Dobutamine images according to Physician and benchmark standards (post exercise image acquisition at 60 seconds or less).
* Performs quality Transesophageal echocardiograms according to physician expectations.
* Maintains competence in all other procedures performed in the imaging department.
* Demonstrates understanding of cardiac disease processes in order to obtain complete acquisition of images for clinical diagnosis by the reading cardiologist.
* Reports pertinent information or changes of patient’s condition to physician, nurse and/or supervisor/senior tech incorporating age-specific information.
* Has a basic understanding of acquired images and reports findings or concerns to reading physician for prompt interpretation.
* Records preliminary interpretation of studies on patient worksheet incorporating age-specific information.
Documents patient information and processes reports accurately and timely.
* Notifies the reading cardiologist of any referral studies to be read.
* Performs all related processing required for each completed study.
* Educates patient and/or patient’s family regarding procedures performed and communicates effectively with patient and/or family.
* Administrative accountabilities.
Acquires order and checks for appropriate clinical information, date, and verifies correct account number and type.
Charges procedure and supplies in compliance with governing regulations.
Reports equipment problems to appropriate personnel and, when applicable, records confirmation numbers in appropriate logbook.
Obtains list of outstanding charges, investigates, and explains reason for charges listed as outstanding.
Complies with departmental downtime protocols.
Familiarizes self with, and compliantly incorporates, all HIPPA mandates of the department and of the Parkersburg Cardiology Associates.

Maintains a neat, clean, organized work environment.
Stock work area with linens/supplies as needed.
Dispose of soiled linens, used supplies, and bio-hazardous materials according to company policy.
Notifies appropriate persons in regard to unsafe electrical, fire, chemical, equipment.

Seeks to promote intromitter, and external communications.
Maintains ethical standards of relationships and communications.
Communicates knowledgeably with physician/healthcare worker(s) regarding patient procedure.
Maintains pleasant, helpful attitude during all phone communications.
Seeks dialog with scheduling as necessary to insure understanding of listed patient procedure.
Assesses communication ability of patient and takes appropriate measures to ensure patient/family understanding of procedure to be performed.
Assures that all appropriate consents are signed.
Arranges for translation skills utilization as appropriate.
* Instrumentation accountabilities: Perform and evaluate routine quality on all instrumentation as specified in the departmental quality manuals.
Determine operational status and timely calibration of all survey instruments.
Record all daily QC checks in their appropriate logbooks.
* Maintains equipment including cleaning and disinfecting according to department procedures.
* Assists scheduling with the accurate scheduling of patient appointments.
* Achieve Patient Satisfaction for Parkersburg Cardiology Associates as measured by patient satisfaction surveys conducted by practice.
Adheres to the standards of behavior defined by Parkersburg Cardiology Associates.

*Supervisory/Management Responsibilities* * N/A *Minimum Requirements* * Certification Program: Graduate of accredited non-invasive cardiovascular training program, with a focus in echocardiography and/or vascular studies.
* 1 year of diagnostic cardiac sonographer experience required; two years preferred.
*Required Certifications, Registrations, Licenses* * Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS), Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT), * Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) or Registered Vascular Specialist (RVS).
*Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities* * Satisfactory completion of a recognized course in arrhythmia detection.
* One year of experience as a registered echocardiography or vascular tech.
Two (2) years’ experience as a registered echocardiography or vascular tech preferred.
* Experience in other aspects of non-invasive testing to include CCVT preferred.
* Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) required.
* Must have ability to perform quality, compete echocardiogram studies, and possess excellent organizational skills to perform in a fast paced environment.
* Must demonstrate the ability to prioritize and organize daily assignments of the job.
* Must have a working knowledge of other departmental procedures and equipment.
* Must have the ability to communicate effectively in writing and verbally.
